Medical Center Occupational Health Basics

The complexity of the health care setting demands that occupational medicine physicians and other providers in medical center occupational health programs acquire a sophisticated and specialized skill set. This includes a comprehensive knowledge of healthcare-specific requirements and standards, as well as practical knowledge of program implementation and organization of services. The course will address principles of immunization and medical surveillance programs, infectious exposure evaluation and emerging infectious threats, management of infected healthcare workers, chemical and radiation hazards, violence in the workplace, wellness and disease management interventions, and OSHA’s approach to hazards in the healthcare industry.

The course is 1 day, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m. It will consist of lectures/discussions, case studies, panel discussions, and questions and answers.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for occupational medicine providers in occupational health programs for healthcare personnel, specifically focusing on providers seeking an update on the current state of the art and those wishing to establish or improve workplace programs to mitigate high-priority hazards. You should attend this course if you are:
• A health care provider working in a hospital, clinic, or other medical center or health care environment where broad familiarity and up-to-date knowledge of the specific hazards of such occupational settings is essential.
• An occupational medicine physician or other provider of occupational medical services wishing to develop a more sophisticated understanding of hospital-specific hazards, program implementation, and organization of services.
