An overview of implicit bias and various types of bias that may impact health care will be provided with a discussion on approaches to identifying and managing personal biases to minimize the impact of such biases on patients and others. Topics will include: - Definitions of unconscious bias and other categories of bias - Double standards in healthcare and clinical outcomes associated with unconscious bias - Biased communication in healthcare records and interactions with patients. - The pitfalls of judging, concluding, and acting on preconceived notions & assumptions. - Identifying our own unconscious bias. - Managing and preventing bias from affecting interactions with patients, colleagues, and others. - Factors, outside of race, ethnicity, and gender, that influence subconscious bias
