113 - Updates on Global Occupational and Environmental Health Strategic Projects and Priorities by the IOMSC

The International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative (IOMSC), comprised of 52 occupational medicine societies (46 countries), has a mission to improve workers’ health globally. This session will review IOMSC’s participation in the following:

IOMSC is a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center and participated in a meeting of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers for Occupational Health (OH) to identify global strategic priorities (eg, OH for healthcare workers; AI in OH; climate change; OH for gig economy; OH in artisanal mining).

Updates on innovative employer-based health/wellbeing initiatives in Japan promoted by the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Japanese Government Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Updates on research project on artisanal/small-scale mining coordinated by IOMSC and supported by Society of Occupational Medicine (funding from NEBOSH).

IOMSC Education Committee updates (knowledge sharing, using membership surveys/needs analysis, co-creation of evidence-based tools).

IOMSC meeting with international leaders, WHO and ILO during World Health Assembly in May to determine future priorities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe ways that a collaboration of occupational medicine societies can share education and training, participate in advocacy, and address current priorities of global health issues.
  • Discuss interactions with the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Labour Organization (ILO).
  • Explain innovative employer-based worker health and well-being initiatives in Japan.
  • Acknowledge the role of the IOMSC in structuring, integrating, strengthening, and defending occupational and environmental medicine societies around the world.
