201 - Family Functioning and Socio-demographic Profile to PTSD Among Military Army Combatant Soldiers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines

PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by terrifying events like natural disasters, accidents or assaults. Symptoms include intrusive memories, negative thoughts, hopelessness, memory issues, relationship difficulties and changes in reactions like irritability and trouble sleeping. PTSD from military combat or high-stress trauma is a major issue. Factors like combat nature, cultural views on mental health and sociodemographics affect PTSD in the Philippine Army. Long-term counterinsurgency and disaster response increase PTSD risk. Research found the six-factor first-order model best fits Complex PTSD (CPTSD), including re-experiencing, avoidance, threat, affective dysregulation, negative self-concept and relationship disturbances. Moral injury exposure affects treatment-seeking. Positive family functioning can mitigate PTSD’s impact, but cultural stigma may hinder help-seeking, affecting family and community health. Socio-demographic factors like age, education and service length influence PTSD development and management.
