The specialty of OEM faces similar challenges around the world, yet there are some countries where the specialty is thriving. What can we learn from our international colleagues tasked with educating the next generation of OEM specialists? This session will:
  • Compare and contrast how different countries design their educational programs leading to certification.

  • Analyze how local regulations and healthcare policies influence the certification and practice of occupational medicine.

  • Review the educational requirements and training pathways that lead to certification in various countries.

  • Discuss the similarities and differences in medical education, residency programs, and specialty training.

  • Learn about the roles of specialty professional organizations in shaping and maintaining certification standards, highlighting their influence on practice standards and professional development.

With the well-known challenges filling the US pipeline of OEM specialists, this session will provide insights, ideas, and Aha! moments that will inspire and inform those involved in OEM education or responsible for ensuring access to occupational healthcare.

  • Identify and differentiate educational pathway for occupational medicine specialty certification in several countries representing different approaches.
  • Analyze the impact of national regulations and healthcare policies on demand for occupational medicine certified physicians.
