101 - Critical Suture Skills Workshop; Advanced Wound Closure Workshop Part 1

Critical Suture Skills Workshop (Sunday): The two-hour learning session will demonstrate and practice common suturing techniques used in outpatient occupational health. Demonstrations will be conducted via an overhead projector. Before and after pictures of actual suture cases, PowerPoint slides with key information points, and video demonstration of techniques via Vata-sponsored Plastic Surgeon will be utilized. Preceptors circulate to give tips on techniques and answer questions. Basic regional anesthetic techniques are to be demonstrated and discussed as well.

Advanced Wound Closure Workshop (Wednesday): Two two-hour sessions will be case-based. Before and after pictures/video clips of actual suture cases will be utilized to set up clinical scenarios. The specific skills necessary to accomplish that particular care outcome will be broken down and performed by each participant. Preceptors will facilitate participant learning by critiquing existing techniques and providing real-time demonstrations to help refine/advance participants' techniques.

This is a closed session, only available to those who pre-registered for a Suture Workshops

Learning Objectives:

  • Critical Suture Skills upon completion participant will be able to use tissue simulation mat, refine & advance techniques.
  • Advance Wound Closure Workshop participant will add to their accumen and confidence to address complex wounds.
  • Participants will be able to utilize the suture mats to practice their techniques and to teach others.
