Dr Stephen Fischer, MD, MPH earned a Navy Scholarship to attend New York University School of Medicine, earning the MD degree in 1999. During his military career, Dr Fischer served forward-deployed naval forces aboard Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan, and at sea with Destroyer Squadron Fifteen, 2000 - 2004. Dr Fischer subsequently trained as an Undersea (Diving) Medical Officer and served aboard Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 in Guam, US Marianas Islands, 2005 - 2007. He trained as a Naval Flight Surgeon 2007 - 2008 in Pensacola, Florida, and was certified as a FAA Aeromedical Examiner. Dr Fischer then performed dive and flight physicals at US Naval Academy’s Brigade Medical Unit, Bancroft Hall, while attending Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where he studied Preventive Medicine. Dr Fischer served I Marine Expeditionary Force, headquartered at Camp Pendleton, California, 2010 - 2013, and deployed for one year to Afghanistan with the Marines. From 2014 to 2020 Dr Fischer served Naval Medical Research & Development Enterprise and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Washington DC area. After retiring from the Navy in 2020, he provided medical support for the Smithsonian Institution across 23 museums and research centers, 2020 - 2023, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr Fischer recently joined Washington DC Veterans Medical Center's War Related Illness & Injury Study Center. Dr Fischer is board-certified and Fellow of the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, Associate Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association, and a life-member of American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.
