Breathium
Ray Cheung is the founder and CEO of Breathium, a social enterprise digital health company empowering patients to manage illnesses exacerbated by air pollution. Under his leadership, Breathium has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ HRSA Building Bridges to Better Health initiative, the J&J Health Equity Innovation Challenge, and as the “Most Innovative Project to Improve the Safety-Net” by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County. Ray also serves as co-chair of the Asthma Coalition of Los Angeles County.
Ray’s career has been dedicated to advancing sustainability and environmental health. Before founding Breathium, he was a FUSE Executive Fellow for civic innovation at the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. Previously, he served as Executive Director of the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP), where he led industry partnerships to deploy commercialized clean energy technologies in China. Under his leadership, ECP was recognized by the Obama Administration as a model for U.S.-China climate collaboration.
His expertise spans global health, sustainability, and policy. Ray has advised organizations including the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and the Chairman of AIG Companies in China. He also managed the World Resources Institute’s clean technology incubator. Earlier in his career, he was a journalist covering China’s energy and environmental landscape for the Economist Intelligence Unit and the South China Morning Post. Ray began his career as an AmeriCorps service-learning coordinator in South San Francisco.
A Los Angeles native, Ray holds a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Georgetown University.
