Dr. Bovard was the Program Director for the HealthPartners Occupational & Environmental Medicine Residency in St. Paul, MN 2015-2022. He has ~40 years of clinical practice experience in occupational, non-operative orthopedics and sports medicine. Dr. Bovard has a BA in literature from St. Olaf College, received his MD at the U. of Minnesota and did his residency training in Preventive Medicine at the U. of Arizona. He is boarded in General Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine. He is an advocate for fitness, physical activity, and the "industrial athlete" model. He is a fellow of ACOEM, ACPM, and ACSM. He served as an ACSM board of directors-medical trustee 2005-8 and was a member of the initial Exercise Is Medicine task force in 2007. He has been a faculty member for the ACSM International Team Physician Course & was a consultant for the US Anti-Doping Agency TUE committee for ten years. He has been an Everest expedition physician, a missionary doctor in Papua New Guinea, a base physician in Antarctica, a set doctor on the movies Cliffhanger and The River Wild, and a physician for US alpine skiing and figure skating teams. He played competitive rugby and is a master’s swimmer and Nordic skier. He lives in Minneapolis with his wife Marnie and 3 cats.
