Dr. Joanna Gaitens is an Associate Professor in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. She has an Associate Degree in Nursing from Norwich University, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of New Hampshire, and a combined Masters of Science in Nursing and Masters of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She also received a PhD, focused on occupational and environmental health, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Much of her work has focused on clinical surveillance of metal-exposed populations, the use of urine biomonitoring to assess exposure, and the utility of public health registries. In addition, she currently co-directs an occupational and environmental health elective for first and second year medical students.
