Dr. Raúl Mirza is the Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Defense Centers for Public Health–Aberdeen and adjunct faculty for the Occupational Medicine Residency at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU).
He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009, commissioning as an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and completing a medical internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He is board-certified in Public Health & General Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine (OM). Dr. Mirza holds a double bachelor’s degree in Biology and Molecular and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University. He earned an MPH from USU in 2011 and completed Training in Policy Studies at the New York Institute of Technology in 2012.
Dr. Mirza is Treasurer and Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and a member of its Council on OEM Science. He previously served as Chair of the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation and as President of the Maryland College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
In 2014, Dr. Mirza deployed to Afghanistan as a Preventive Medicine and OM Consultant for NATO and U.S. Forces–Afghanistan. His experience includes roles as a healthcare provider at Whitman-Walker Health, lecturer at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and U.S. Air Force Reserves Flight Surgeon.
His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal. His interests span tropical diseases, sexually transmitted infections, expeditionary medicine, and health policy. Dr. Mirza lives in the Washington, D.C., area with his wife, Starr.
