Dr. Jose Ortiz holds MD and MPH degrees from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) and a BS Degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Duke University. He completed a General Surgery Internship at the Tripler Army Medical Center and a Residency in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) at the National Capitol Consortium (NCC)/USU. He is Board Certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. COL (Ret.) Ortiz currently serves as the Associate Director of Complex Exposure Threats Center of Excellence (CETCE) and as the Senior OEM Consultant at the Washington, D.C. War Related Illness & Injury Study Center (WRIISC). He previously served as the Chief of Occupational Medicine at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (from December 2021 to May 2023), as the Associate Program Director for the NCC/USU OEM Residency Program, and as the Consultant for Occupational Health and Environmental Medicine for the Army Surgeon General (from May 2018 to June 2022). He was the President of the Metro Washington College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (MWCOEM) from 2022 - 2024.
