There has been a steady increase in both the number and diversity of human and zoonotic pathogens that are studied. This interactive panel-based session will focus on select agents and laboratory-associated infections within the evolving landscape of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The discussion will center on real-world case scenarios and will be divided into two main segments. The first, titled 'Tiny Pinches with Big Issues: Biohazards and Needle Sticks,' will address the risks of exposure to blood-borne exposures. The second segment, 'What's New, Doc?' will focus on pre-exposure prophylaxis and management strategies for novel and re-emerging pathogens such as mpox and measles. Attendees are encouraged to actively participate in case discussions and pose questions throughout the session. The primary goal is for participants to understand a generalized approach and gain practical strategies to prevent lab-associated infections. This session will serve as an interactive platform for occupational health professionals to share expertise and strengthen preparedness for managing biological hazards across diverse work environments.
