The growing use of cannabis for medical purposes has become a global trend, presenting new challenges for workplace safety management, especially in safety-sensitive roles. Many workplaces are still unprepared to effectively assess and manage the risks associated with medical cannabis use. Although research is gradually advancing, with some guidelines and publications available, a deeper understanding of impairment risks is urgently needed. This session will explore key distinctions between CBD and THC, as well as the differences between medical and recreational cannabis. We will also discuss strategies to mitigate workplace risks associated with cannabis use. Attendees will gain insights from the latest research on medical cannabis, helping them develop the strategies necessary to assess risks of impairment, and at times safely accommodate workers using cannabis for medical purposes.
*Cannabis is a new and evolving topic. In this session, Dr. Snider- Adler will help facilitate engagement with the topic without advocating for, or promoting, practices that are not, or not yet adequately based on current science, evidence, and clinical reasoning.
